Kieran Gibbs believes that Arsenal paid the price for
injuries and tiredness in
their 1-1 draw at home against Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby
today. Arsenal started well at the Emirates Stadium, dominating the possession, however
when Spurs did receive the ball they looked a real threat on the counter attack.
And it was Spurs who took the lead in the 32nd minute
when Harry Kane struck. A
good ball from Danny Rose found the England striker,
who sprung the offside trap
and then beat Petr Cech with his shot.
Arsenal fought their way back though and eventually
levelled the match in the
77th minute after Spurs could not withstand a spell of
sustained pressure.
The goal came from Gibbs, who found space at the back post to get onto a Mesut
Ozil ball and bundle it into the back of the net.
The Gunners pushed for a winner, but it ended 1-1.
And Gibbs accepts that Spurs were tough opponents for Arsenal, telling Sky
Sports: "Credit to Tottenham today. They came and
showed up and put in a decent
performance against us, but in these games you can
never give up.
"We know what it means to the fans and the club."
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger brought Mathieu Flamini on at half time, Gibbs on in
the 74th minute and Mikel Arteta in the 77th minute and Gibbs was asked about the chances.
"To be honest, we're struggling with a lot of injuries at
the moment and he [Wenger]
doesn't have many options in midfield.
"Players were tired from Bayern Munich, so he just
wanted fresh legs.
"The way the game went we're happy with a point, but
it's disappointing to drop
points when we're in a strong position in the league."
